Spreadsheets give you superpowers... why not use them?
From our founders
We launched Whalesync out of the Summer ‘21 YC batch to solve a problem we’d thought was somewhat niche. Dozens of operators told us how painful it was to connect their website builder (Webflow) with their favorite spreadsheet (Airtable), so we built a product that synced data between them. Fortunately, for a good amount of those operators, Whalesync solved their problem!
But as we kept talking with hundreds (and eventually thousands) of builders, it became clear this issue wasn’t just about Webflow and Airtable. We met sales reps who were manually exporting CSVs from Sheets to upload into Salesforce. We met developers who were fed up with trying to build a Postgres x Airtable integration. We met investors who dreamed of controlling Affinity from Notion.
Over the last decade there has been an explosion in vertical SaaS apps handling every business task you can imagine. Yet, despite launching in 2006, Google Sheets is still where 1 billion people do their work. 100 million more use Notion and over 500K organizations use Airtable. Spreadsheets are still the go-to way to get work done because they’re ultra flexible, require basically no learning curve, and enable you to edit data in bulk.
Despite being the tool of choice, spreadsheets can't compete with the specific functionality that vertical SaaS tools provide. A Google Sheet alone will never be able to build a website like Webflow. An Airtable base will never have all the CRM features of Salesforce. So what do people do? They either waste time manually importing and exporting CSVs (🤮) OR try duct-taping one-way integrations with automation tools.
We realized that if we could make it easy to connect these tools together we could unlock spreadsheet superpowers for everyone. Imagine your ops team updating hundreds of leads in HubSpot in minutes. Or your marketing teams creating thousands of SEO landing pages in Webflow with a few clicks. How much more could we all get done?
Today hundreds of operators around the world use Whalesync to bring spreadsheet superpowers to their workflows and take control of their data. We hope you’ll join us on this ride - we’re just getting started.
