Webflow CMS vs Framer CMS (2025)
A head-to-head comparison of the top website builder CMS’s
Framer vs Webflow is the big question for marketers in 2025. While it’s important to compare each tools’ design capabilities, it’s equally important to consider who has the best CMS. Below is a head-to-head breakdown of the Webflow CMS vs the Framer CMS so you can decide which is right for you.
What is the Webflow CMS?
A CMS, or content management system, lets you create and manage templated page content. For example, if your site has a blog, you can create new blog posts using your site’s CMS.
Luckily, both Webflow and Framer have CMS capabilities built directly into their products. This is extremely useful for sites with heavy content like blogs.
Comparison categories
Here are the five categories across which we compare the Webflow CMS with the Framer CMS:
- CMS limits
- Plugins and integrations
- User interface
- Supported fields
- Rich text
Each of these categories are essential in assessing the quality of a CMS. Finally, at the end of the post, we’ll share an overall winner.
Comparing Webflow CMS vs Framer CMS
1) CMS limits
There are two main limits on which to compare a CMS:
- Items (aka pages)
- Collections (aka templates)
Webflow CMS limits
The Webflow CMS has different item and collection limits depending on your plan. Their Business plan, which is $124/mo, includes:
- 20,000 items
- 40 collections
This means you can launch 20,000 unique pages using the Webflow CMS before needing to upgrade to Enterprise.
Framer CMS limits
Similar to Webflow, Framer has different CMS limits depending on your plan. Their Scaleup plan, which is $200/mo, includes:
- 30,000 pages
- 30 collections
This means you can launch 30,000 unique pages using the Framer CMS before needing to upgrade to Enterprise.
🧑⚖️ Winner
Tie
A slight edge to Framer for allowing up to 30,000 pages prior to Enterprise. Overall though, the CMS limits are pretty comparable across products.
2) Plugins and integrations
In the last few years, both Webflow and Framer launched app/plugin stores that let you connect third party tools.
Integrations can be essential in unlocking the power of the CMS, so it’s important to understand capabilities in this area.
Webflow CMS integrations
The Webflow app store launched in 2022. Since then, it’s grown to over 240 apps!
With Webflow’s robust app store, you can connect the Webflow CMS to almost anything. We’re biased, but we think the most powerful app for the Webflow CMS is Whalesync ;). With Whalesync you can use the Webflow CMS to build thousands of programmatic SEO pages.
Whalesync enables you to sync the Webflow CMS with:
Framer CMS integrations
Framer’s plugin marketplace launched in 2024, so is much newer compared to Webflow. Despite its relative newness, Framer has already garnered 100 plugins.
What’s especially nice about Framer’s plugins is that they are deeply integrated. When you’re adding a new plugin to your Framer site, it’s usually only a matter of clicks before you see your plugin’s capabilities.
🧑⚖️ Winner
Webflow
While Framer’s marketplace is growing, it can’t beat the breadth of apps of the Webflow app store.
3) User interface
The user interface (or UI) of a CMS is how one actually interacts with it. A great UI can make it the experience of adding content a breeze whereas a poor UI can be frustrating.
Webflow CMS UI
The Webflow CMS UI is very basic. It’s easy to understand, but not particularly user friendly. One bright spot though is that they’re staring to add AI features directly into the CMS. For example, Webflow lets you use AI to automatically create sample data when you create a new CMS collection.
Framer CMS UI
The Framer CMS UI is a bit more modern than Webflow’s UI. It’s quicker and easier to click through your CMS items and more delightful to make updates.
🧑⚖️ Winner
Framer
While Webflow’s AI features are nice, the overall experience of the Framer UI is superior.
4) Supported fields
When choosing a CMS, it’s important to know what type of data you can enter into it. Webflow and Framer call these field types which enable you to add things like text, numbers, and dates.
Webflow CMS supported fields
The Webflow CMS has 16 supported field types. The basics like text, image, and links are included but a few particularly powerful ones to call out:
- Multi-reference fields allow you to link data across collections
- Video fields allow you to insert YouTube videos into your site
Framer CMS supported fields
The Framer CMS has 12 supported field types. Similar to Webflow they have both the basics and more advanced fields.
🧑⚖️ Winner
Webflow
This one’s fairly straightforward - Webflow supports more field types than Framer. The Video and Multi-Image fields in particular are extremely powerful.
5) Rich text
A rich text field is a text field that supports elements like images, lists, and links. Rich text is a particularly important field because it enables you to create content like blog posts.
Both Webflow and Framer have rich text fields but with slightly different capabilities.
Webflow CMS rich text
Webflow’s rich text field has robust support for all the features you need. This includes H1-H6 headers, images, videos, links, lists, and even code embeds. With code embeds, you can literally inject your own custom code directly into a CMS page.
The drawback of Webflow’s rich text editor is that it’s not particularly user friendly. Writing content in the rich text editor can be clunky which is why so many Webflow users tend to sync their rich text with other apps like Notion.
Framer CMS rich text
The Framer CMS is fairly comparable to Webflow’s in terms of functionality. They too offer H1-H6 headings, images, links, videos, quotes, and more. The one piece of functionality Framer’s rich text lacks is code embeds.
Framer makes up for it though with its rich text interface. Writing in a Framer rich text field is much simpler and user friendly.
🧑⚖️ Winner
Framer
While code embeds in Webflow can be game changing, the ease of use of the Framer rich text editor is hard to beat.
🧑⚖️ Overall winner: Webflow
Overall, Webflow and Framer have similar CMS functionality. The Framer CMS is more user friendly and easy to click around. The Webflow CMS is a bit more robust with stronger integrations and more supported fields.
While Framer’s CMS is impressive considering its age, Webflow is still slightly superior as of today. This will be an interesting area to watch going forward though!
